Robert sinskey ‘abraxas’ 2015 - carneros, california
Abraxas, the wine, is the embodiment of leaving well enough alone. Abraxas, the name, has early Egyptian and Greek origins. The belief was that Abraxas was all powerful, who embodied both good and evil. Abraxas ruled the heavens and, in both Greek and Hebrew, the letters add up to 365. Abraxas takes the good with the bad instead of seeking idyllic perfection, Abraxas embraces distinctiveness... and in wine, distinctiveness is the name of the game. Made from Pinot Gris, Riesling & Gewürtztraminer in the traditions of Alsace.

cowhorn vineyard & garden ‘spiral 36’ 2017 - applegate valley, oregon
The ethos of Biodynamic wine and viticulture centers around one concept, totality. Totality in the vineyard is not just the grape vine, but everything around it; it’s the microbes in the soil, the apple and cherry trees lining the property, and the way the grapes are taken care of, both before and after harvest. The result is unity and completeness. Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden set out to make wines honoring the Rhône Valley utilizing Biodynamic techniques. For white wines, that means Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier. The grapes are harvested from vineyard blocks 3 and 6, blended together harmoniously and displaying aromas of basil and honeydew, with the palate giving way to poached pear, succulent guava, and green tea. Wine as nature intended, or in other words, totality.

chehalem grUner veltliner ’ridgecrest vineyard’ 2017 - willamette, oregon
Grüner Veltliner (Green Veltliner) is a white wine grape variety grown primarily in Austria. Along the Danube to the west of Vienna, it grows with Riesling on terraces & slopes so steep they can barely retain any soil. The result is a very pure, mineral driven wine capable of long aging, that stands comparison with some of the great wines of the world. In Oregon, these qualities are tempered with more fertile soils, yielding a rounder texture. Grüner is an incredibly versatile wine, pairing well with vegetables, fried food, seafood and white meats. Unoaked, medium bodied, savory and dry.

Michael Shaps petit manseng 2016 - Monticello, virginia
Michael Shaps has been making wine in Virginia for nearly 30 years, focusing on an old-world style while selecting grapes that showcase the potential of the unique terroir nestled in the woods south of Charlottesville. His Petit Manseng is no exception. The grapes are gently pressed off of their skins and the resulting juice is barrel fermented and aged in a mixture of neutral oak barrels and stainless steel. The juice undergoes no malolactic fermentation, allowing for a vivacious natural acidity. The result is a uniquely American wine, bone dry yet brimming with tropical notes of mango, starfruit, and lime peel. Dramatically intense and memorable.

rafael et fils ‘pour rosie’ chardonnay 2018 - Oak Knoll, california
Marc Rafael (the fils and current proprietor) is the product of Georg and Rosie Rafael. Georg fled Berlin during WWII at the age of 15 with nothing but a train ticket. Somewhere along the way, he met Rosie and everything changed. After Georg and Rosie acquired some land in the Oak Knoll District of California, they immediately turned the mundane farm into a grape growing powerhouse, for years supplying grapes to legendary wineries such as Duckhorn, Robert Mondavi, and Far Niente, eventually deciding to make their own wines. This wine pays hommage to his mother, Rosie, who was responsible for Riesling Chardonnay being planted at their vineyards in the first place. This Chardonnay is decidedly restrained for the region but nonetheless elegant and exceedingly delicious. It is aged in neutral barrels for 10 months for a delicate oak presence. Straw-colored, juicy, and refreshingly crisp, this wine displays flavors and aromas of grilled pineapple, fresh orchard fruit, lemon zest, and a medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. A wine that could make any mother proud.

1057 Biggio Hamina Gewürztraminer 2017 | Willamette Valley, OR
This wine is a delightful oddball, unlike anything we’ve come across. After pressing the grapes, the skins are left in contact with the juice for an extended period of time, which is normally the way a red wine is produced. The resulting wine is bright orange in color, floral and unabashedly exotic. Crisp acidity is bookended with aromatic complexity and a supple tannin structure. Let this wine spur conversation while you enjoy it with a variety of foods, from spicy to seafood and poultry, this wine does it all.

owen roe ’sinister hand’ 2016 - columbia valley, washington
This is a deftly balanced red grape mash up inspired by the delicious field blends of France’s Southern Rhône valley. In this wine, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault coalesce to create a medium+/full bodied wine packed with flavors unadulterated by new oak. Long ago, during the 17th century, the O’Neills and O’Reillys were two revolutionary Irish families. They formed a rowing competition to reserve rights to some highly regarded land. The two rowing teams agreed that the first to touch the land, after rowing across the lake, would become ruler of the land. O’Neill’s boat was falling behind so a member of the crew grabbed his own sword, cut off his hand and threw it ashore, winning the title to rule the land. This land still remains in the family to this day.

Gothic ’Maelstrom’ pInot Noir 2014 - Willamette Valley, Oregon
“A descent into the Maelstrom.” The 2014 Maelstrom from Gothic utilizes fruit from very old, original rootstock vines from the Prince Hill Vineyard, offering unmatched complexity and depth. Aged for sixteen months in French oak, of which 25% was new, this wine is a tribute to the best Burgundies of days past and present. A moderate ruby color leads towards aromas of red plum, black cherry, and sassafras. The glass is seemingly brimming with flavors of wild red fruits, anise, and sweet birch. 2014 will be remembered as the vintage of a lifetime as grapes ripened gradually during a beautiful dry summer and fall, yielding healthy, dark fruit rich in flavor and color. This wine was named for the swirling vortex in Edgar Allen Poe’s story of the same name. Tumultuous, dark, and twisted with elegance, and sheer beauty.

Forlorn Hope ’queen of the sierra’’ tempranillo 2017 - Sierra Foothills, california
Forlorn Hope wines are the direct result of the wealth of viticulture in the state of California, meant to showcase varietals that are less common. These ‘rare creatures’ (as founder and head winemaker, Matthew Rorick, calls them) are longshots, castaways, lost causes. Grapes that present a challenge to the everyday. The phrase ‘Forlorn Hope’ stems from a mistranslation of the Dutch verloren hoop, meaning “lost troop”, or soldiers who volunteered to lead the charge into enemy lines. Yes, the chance of success was slim, but the glory and reward was that much greater. A light bodied red wine dominated by Tempranillo with a touch of Barbera and Trousseau, it flourishes with aromas and flavors of soft red plums, desiccated roses, and river stones. Welcome to the island of misfit toys.

Robert Foley Charbono 2015 |- Napa, california
Charbono is a red Italian wine grape variety historically grown in the Savoie wine region (which shifted from Italian to French control in 1860), but today is more widely planted in Argentina. Some describe the variety as ‘... the Rodney Dangerfield of wine’, noting that it is a hard variety for which to find a market. We prefer to describe this as the Barry White of wine; very deep, and very, very smooth.

Elizabeth Spencer grenache‘’Proprietor Select’ 2017 - Mendocino, California
Husband and wife team Liz & Spencer make their wines with a handful of outstanding and experienced growers in Sonoma and Mendocino which provide inspired fruit for a clutch of vividly fresh and endearingly delicious wines. (Their debut wine was 1998 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, made every year since.) This Grenache, a sensational value, packs an outrageous amount of flavor into a medium bodied package meant to be paired with all sorts of cuisine.
